Is it possible to add a point (points)
to an existing geometry, say, a cylinder,
so that the GID mesh generator will produce
mesh nodes at given points.

No, to force the mesh to share this node it's necessary to divide this
cilinder with a surface that contain
as boundary a line that contain this point.

when it's necessary to add a node, or a line, or a surface.
