Dear All,
I have problems when importing STL binary files in GiD (version
11.1.5d), there is apparently a memory overhead during the loading
process. Files were created adopting the /stlwrite/ Matlab function (see
attachment). The ascii STL format on the other hand gives no problems.
Attached please find two .stl files so you can give it a try.
Here's a link to a 100mb binary stl file (which gives problems when
loaded in GiD: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10874082/test_big.stl
Best regards,
Marco Giometto

[GiDlist] issues when importing binary STL files in GiD
Hello Marco,
I have tested all your examples and GiD is able to read them without
problems.
I tried with the current versions:
- Win x32 official 11.0.5 version
- Win x32 developer 11.1.6d version
The big Stl binary model (about 2 millions of triangles and 1 million of
nodes) is imported in about 15 seconds and the GiD process spend about 250
MB more than before read it.
What is the GiD version that you are using?
Maybe the problem only happen in some old GiD version, or in another
platform.
Enrique

[GiDlist] issues when importing binary STL files in GiD
Hello,
The problem with the binary STL on Linux64 was caused by a bug in the STL
binary reading code. Now it's corrected for the next version of GiD.
With the correction, both models can be read.
Thanks,
Miguel Pasenau
