Firewallsettings for Floating Licence

Post by desperating matse »

Hello,

my institute bought a GID 14 Classroom License for 20 users. I installed everything according to instructions but have one last issue to fix: the firewallsettings. We use a private network and if I disable the related windows firewall (win 7 enterprise 64bit to be more precisely), everthing works well and the clients are able to get the licence. However, not with enabled firewall.
I already created firewall-rules to permit the connection of the passerver for all protocols and ports (as described in another manual for atena installation) but unfortunately still no success.

Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong? Do you need more detailed information?

Many thanks in advance

As you explained it seems that the problem is the rule of the server firewall to allow the GiD password server (passerverd) incoming connections at the port 7073 (this is the default port used by passerverd)

What is the operating system (of the server)?

The operating system of the server is a current version of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit (the clients use Windows 10 64bit).

At the moment there are 2 incoming and 2 outcoming rules activated to allow the connection for passerverd.exe and passerver-conf.exe for all protocols and ports (so 7073 should be included) and its not working.

Just for additional information: On the same server we're succesfully running the Sentinel LDK License Manager (hasplms) for our Atena network license.

Probably the Windows firewall rules are wrong.
delete all your current passerver related Windows firewall rules, and create a new rule.

Must add a rule
for all profiles: Domain, Private and Public
for the program: C:\Program Files (x86)\PasServer 2.5\passerverd.exe
(not to passerver-conf.exe that is an special GUI client that allow configure local or remotelly passerverd)

allowing Inbound (incoming) connections of TCP protocol (UDP or other are unneded)
on local port 7073 (other ports are unneded)

And off course verify that the service 'passerverd' is running on the server.

Deleted and added the firewall rules as described... Blimey! It works!

Thank you very much for your support! No clue what I was doing wrong.
