It would be wonderful, if the scale label was editable !
Or, if it's easier, add three more buttons 10x, 100x, 1000x.
Now, for setting a large number, the user has to go in there three or more times
and slide to the right. The only other way is to use the results window, but this is mostly handy !

You are right, this widget must be enhanced.
As a trick, you can click some of the buttons or the slider to change the scale value, and then you can enter the scale you want to try writing the number in the lower entry
e.g. try interactively several orders of magnitude

Or from the top menu bar:
View results --> deformation --> (select your result)
and in the command line you can enter any factor you want until you press <escape>
