Possible small bug
It seems that the 'Elements' entity color in preferences -> colours is not saved in the .ini file. Something strange happens and it resets all the time to the default (very) dark gray. This gray color is barely visible in the black theme.
Re: Possible small bug
I have tried with GiD 14.0 Win x64 and in my tests it worked always well, with GiD classic and GiD black themes
(and in my screen the gray could be differences of the two colors black background)
Maybe your gid.ini has something wrong.
Delete it and start GiD again, it will be re-created with default values.

Re: Possible small bug
I tried to reproduce the error :
Initially, the element color for black theme is RGB(153,153,153)
Execute 'GiD_Process Mescape Data Materials DrawMaterial -DrawAll-'
Then 'GiD_Process Mescape' or just press escape
The element color becomes RGB(41,41,41) and needs to be corrected manually !

Re: Possible small bug
Ok, The information that I unknown in the first message was that the element's color become wrong after drawing classical materials
(GiD_Process Mescape Data Materials DrawMaterial -DrawAll)
Now I am able to repeat the problem, we will fix it for next 14.x version
