Cylinder
Hello everybody, is it possible to mesh cylinder with hexahedra elements? Thank You!
Re: Cylinder
You can only mesh with hexahedra volumes structured (6-faces topologically like a box) or semi-structured (extruded volumes with two 'equivalent' tops and all lateral surfaces of 4-sides, topologically like a square)
The cylinder in particular is a semi-structured shape,
can mesh it with semi-structured hexahedra with
Mesh->Semi structured->Volumes
select the number of divisions in the structured direction (the extrusion direction)
and then the volumes
and by default elements are triangle for surfaces and tetrahedra for volumes, to change it
Mesh->Element type->Hexahedra
and select the volume
then could generate your mesh
To create a structured mesh is necessary to modify the geometry, splitting the cylinder volume in 6-sided volumes (not always easy or possible in general)

Re: Cylinder
Is it possible to mesh this part ONLY with hexahedra elements? I assigned the element type hexahedra, but GiD generates linear elements, too.

Re: Cylinder
I've managed it. The problem was that I didn't erase the line that served for sweep operation and GiD automatically added linear elements to that line. Sorry for disturbing
