FEA with GID + Matfem 3D?

What is your opinion about program Gid for FEA using Matfem 3D code for calculating? I am in pregrade and i only used Gid and SAP2000, and i would like to know differences with another FEA software like Abaqus, etc.

Matfem is an academic Matlab-based code, for learning pourposes
Abaqus has much more advanced simulation features (non-linear and lots of material models)
In both cases, the GiD interface is very basic (also the GiD-SAP2000 interface is very simple)
