Rotation form Center of Gravity

Post by crised »

Hi! I've imported a STEP file into GiD, and I wonder if it is possible to rotate the whole geometry from its center of gravity
Thanks in advance

You can rotate entities with the 'Move' window
Utilities->Move...
then select the kind of entity to be moved, probably 'volumes' in your case
Transformation=Rotation
and then must define a rotation axis by two points on this axis, an the rotation angle
(if do you select 'Two dimensions', then only a point on z=0 of the axis is needed: the rotation center)
and select the entities to be moved (all its dependencies are off course also moved)

Note: this change the coordinates, it is not a 'visual' rotation!!

If do you want only a 'visual rotation' GiD is automatically selecting an 'automatic rotation center' but you can also set the 'rotation center' to the coordinates you want (useful to inspect a detail)
View->Rotate->Center
and pick a point or a new coordinate (<Ctrl-a> swaps between both modes during a selection)
