Help for creating a prism

Post by jmichelbm »

Hi guys!
I need help to create a four-sided-prism, with measures: 10 - height, 1 - length and 1 - width. And then i would like to create a mesh with ten elements (ten cubes measuring 1x1x1). Could anyone help me? I thank you in advance. Kind regards.

Geometry->Create->Object->Rectangle
0 0
1 1
Utilities->Copy
Entity type: Surfaces
Second point z=10
Do extrude=Volumes
and select the surface (number 1)

Mesh->Structured->Volumes->Assign number of cells
select the volume (number 1)
then enter 10 divisions and select one of the vertical lines (the other dependent lines will be selected automatically)
then enter 1 divisions and select two lines of the other two structured directions (default number of structured divisions is 2)
assing that do you wan hexahedra (default is tetrahedra)
Mesh->Element type->Hexahedra
and select the volume
then generate the mesh (Mesh->Generate mesh). The general size doesn't matter because everything will be structured.

This is a very basic use of GiD, follow the tutorials of Help->Tutorials (GiD User manual) in order to start learning GiD
a pdf version could be download from http://www.gidhome.com/support/manuals

and select the volume

Dear colleague, I really appeciate your help. I managed to build the geometry, however i did not manage to create the mesh with prismatic elements, juzt wtih the tetrahedra ones, I just need ten primastic elements , but instead of that I got 40 tetrahedra elements. Could you give some idea?
