[GiDlist] Contour fill problem of QUAD4

Postby HEMMI, Shigeru » Thu Sep 11, 2014 5:23 am

Dear GiD team,

I encountered a GiD problem in 2D post processing.

For a calculated result given in the post.msh,

MESH dimension 2 ElemType Quadrilateral Nnode 4
Coordinates
3358 1.54340557 0.025 0
3368 1.54340557 0.0125 0
3378 1.54340557 0 0
3400 1.56294235 0.025 0
3405 1.56294235 0.0125 0
3419 1.56294235 0 0
3435 1.57865031 0.025 0
3440 1.57865031 0.0125 0
3446 1.57865031 0 0
3475 1.59818709 0.025 0
3481 1.59818709 0.0125 0
3487 1.59818709 0 0
End Coordinates

Elements
80 3419 3405 3368 3378 8
160 3405 3400 3358 3368 8
3201 3446 3440 3405 3419 8
3202 3440 3435 3400 3405 8
3241 3487 3481 3440 3446 8
3321 3481 3475 3435 3440 8
End Elements

and post.res files,

GiD Post Results File 1.0
Result "nodalOutput" "iStep" 0 Scalar OnNodes
ComponentNames "Something"
Values
3358 0.763791
3368 0.876752
3378 1
3400 0.589664
3405 0.65474
3419 1
3435 0.410336
3440 0.34526
3446 0
3475 0.236209
3481 0.123248
3487 0
End Values

The GiD output of contour lines is valid but the contour fill is invalid,
the latter is not symmetric with respect to the vertical center line.
Please take a look at the attachment figure.
GiD seems doing incorrect interpolation for contour fill of QUAD4 element.

I'm using GiD 11.0.8 and my PC is Windows 8.1 pro 64bit.

Best regards,

HEMMI, Shigeru

[GiDlist] Contour fill problem of QUAD4

Postby escolano » Fri Sep 12, 2014 4:27 pm

The square was drawn for the contour fill as two triangles, and for a coarse mesh the underlying unsymmetric mesh is visible in the image.

Latest GiD versions use four triangles (with an inner extra node) that provide a more symmetric interpolation.

You can use the current GiD 12 version or also the last GiD 11.1.9d version (with your current 11.x password),

This is the image obtained with these versions:

[GiDlist] Contour fill problem of QUAD4

Postby HEMMI, Shigeru » Sat Sep 13, 2014 1:36 am

Thanks for the support but Im still annoying.

First I do not have the license of GiD 12.
I would like to solve problemes within GiD 11.

Please remember that GiD 11.1.9d is not free from crashing; See
http://listas.cimne.upc.edu/pipermail/gidlist/2014/005063.html
http://listas.cimne.upc.edu/pipermail/gidlist/2014/005066.html

and your recommendation was to use GiD 11.0.8 Windows x32,
http://listas.cimne.upc.edu/pipermail/gidlist/2014/005076.html

Which version should I use?

Best regads,

[GiDlist] Contour fill problem of QUAD4

Postby escolano » Mon Sep 15, 2014 2:09 pm

We will not pack any version 11.x more, we will release only new versions 12.x

Any version will be never completely free of some bug, version 11.1.9d is good enough !!

About its known bugs, you can avoid them, e.g. to insert a model over another you must first generate a mesh in the current model to avoid the crash.

I remember that you can have installed more than one GiD version, each one is located in a different folder, then decide yourself which is better for your use (in my opinion 11.1.9d is the best 11.x version)

And you can use the win x32 version also in an x64 operating system

In Japan, as a buisiness custom, one year guarantee is often provided for
commercial products.
It is some 10 months before since I paid GiD 11 license.
Since 10 monthes is less than 1 year, it is my hope you pack and provide
fixed GiD 11 version for me.

For another well known sample as a commercial custom, Microsoft provides
security fixes
and some bug fixes for their Windows OS or other products for certain
periods.
Thus I believe it is not a miracle if you provide fixed version of the GiD
11.

Hope this changes your mind.

[GiDlist] Contour fill problem of QUAD4

Postby miguel » Fri Sep 19, 2014 11:04 am

Hi,

¿ have you tried going to Preferences -- Graphical and in the Drawing method block selecting Display Lists instead of Vertex Buffer Objects ?

I tried with a simple quad8 example on gid 11.0.6 and it worked for me:

We will not pack any version 11.x more, we will release only new versions 12.x

Any version will be never completely free of some bug, version 11.1.9d is good enough !!

About its known bugs, you can avoid them, e.g. to insert a model over another you must first generate a mesh in the current model to avoid the crash.

I remember that you can have installed more than one GiD version, each one is located in a different folder, then decide yourself which is better for your use (in my opinion 11.1.9d is the best 11.x version)

And you can use the win x32 version also in an x64 operating system

Thanks for the support but Im still annoying.

First I do not have the license of GiD 12.
I would like to solve problemes within GiD 11.

Please remember that GiD 11.1.9d is not free from crashing; See
http://listas.cimne.upc.edu/pipermail/gidlist/2014/005063.html
http://listas.cimne.upc.edu/pipermail/gidlist/2014/005066.html

and your recommendation was to use GiD 11.0.8 Windows x32,
http://listas.cimne.upc.edu/pipermail/gidlist/2014/005076.html

Which version should I use?

HEMMI, Shigeru

2014-09-13 0:27 GMT+09:00 Enrique Escolano escolano at cimne.upc.edu:

The square was drawn for the contour fill as two triangles, and for a coarse mesh the underlying unsymmetric mesh is visible in the image.

Latest GiD versions use four triangles (with an inner extra node) that provide a more symmetric interpolation.

You can use the current GiD 12 version or also the last GiD 11.1.9d version (with your current 11.x password),

This is the image obtained with these versions:

Dear GiD team,

I encountered a GiD problem in 2D post processing.

For a calculated result given in the post.msh,

The GiD output of contour lines is valid but the contour fill is invalid, the latter is not symmetric with respect to the vertical center line.

Please take a look at the attachment figure.

GiD seems doing incorrect interpolation for contour fill of QUAD4 element.

I'm using GiD 11.0.8 and my PC is Windows 8.1 pro 64bit.

Best regards,

HEMMI, Shigeru

[GiDlist] Contour fill problem of QUAD4

Postby HEMMI, Shigeru » Fri Sep 19, 2014 12:37 pm

Dear Miguel A. Pasenau de Riera and Enrique Escolano,

As you wrote, "Display lists" or "Immediate mode" of my GiD 11.0.8 solved
my annoying problem.

Thank you very much for taking the time for me and your patience.

Best regards,

HEMMI, Shigeru

Hi,

¿ have you tried going to *Preferences -- Graphical *and in the *Drawing
method* block selecting *Display Lists* instead of *Vertex Buffer Objects*
?

I tried with a simple quad8 example on gid 11.0.6 and it worked for me:

Best regards,

Miguel Pasenau

Dear Dr. Enrique Escolano,

Thanks for the reply.

You wrote:

In Japan, as a buisiness custom, one year guarantee is often provided for
commercial products.
It is some 10 months before since I paid GiD 11 license.
Since 10 monthes is less than 1 year, it is my hope you pack and provide
fixed GiD 11 version for me.

For another well known sample as a commercial custom, Microsoft provides
security fixes
and some bug fixes for their Windows OS or other products for certain
periods.
Thus I believe it is not a miracle if you provide fixed version of the GiD
11.

Hope this changes your mind.

Best regads,

HEMMI, Shigeru
