[GiDlist] Issues with Preprocess and Postprocess

Post by Maalik, Abdul »

Thanks Enrique!

Now I have got another issue. Till yesterday, my GiD software was working perfectly but now it is giving me problem both in preprocess and postprocess. I have attached the screenshots of my preprocess window and the postprocess window. Moreover, I have also attached my project folder as well. The preprocess is not showing the geometry as it was showing before and postprocess is not showing any result. Can we see what is the problem? Is the problem with project folder or with the software itself?

Hi,

I have a 2D plot of current density of a circular plate. Now I want to plot the variation of current along a radial line (rho) at some given angle (phi).I know that I can go to

View results/Graphs/Line graph. Now I have two questions regarding this.

i) How can I specify the start and end point of the radial line ? (starting point should be center of circular plate and end point should be on the circumference of the plate)

[GiDlist] Import->Insert GiD Geometry crashes on Windows 64b

Post by HEMMI, Shigeru »

Dear Enrique Escolano,

1. As you wrote, GiD 11.1.9d does not crash after mesh generated for
both models and I apply "Insert GiD model"; thanks for the support.
2. I do not have money to purchase GiD 12; I have to go with GiD 11 for a while.
3. The last official version 11.0.8 still has another crash problem, e.g.,
http://www.gidhome.com/component/manual/gidlist2014/panhteonigs_causes_a_crash_of_gid_11_64bit_whengenerating_mesh
, which is not replyed yet. In my experiences the official version
11.0.8 crashes very often in many situations.

Best regards,

HEMMI, Shigeru

2014-08-04 19:46 GMT+09:00 Enrique Escolano escolano at cimne.upc.edu:
If fact the problem happen because in latest GiD developer versions "Insert GiD geometry" has changed to "Insert GiD model" and now the mesh is also inserted.

The crash happen if the model to insert or the current model doesn't has any mesh. You can avoid the crash in GiD 11.1.9d with some trick, like generate a mesh in both models before the insertion.

The problem is that we are not compiling any 11.x version more, because this version has become the 12 version. The bug has been fixed in version 12.0.1 available for download now.

You can also use the last 11.0.8 official version.

Dear Enrique,

Thanks for the answer but the problem NOT solved.

I saved two models, for example, one is a sphere of radius 1.0 and the center placed at the origin, and the second model of another sphere of radius 1.0 at the center (2.0,0,0). When I open the first model and go to "import--insert GiD Geometry" choosing the second model, GiD crashes on my Windows PC.

Since the "import--insert GiD Geomtry" feature is significant for my work, please fix it and provide fixed GiD 11 module.

It seems that it crash only when inserting a model in an empty model.
For this case doesn't has sense to use insert, use the normal open.
Insert model is just interesting to add a model to an existing model.

We will fix it for next GiD 12.0.1 version

Thanks for your information

[GiDlist] Issues with Preprocess and Postprocess

Post by escolano »

Your file CenterFedRef10G.post.msh really does not contain a GiD
postprocess mesh, it contain a NASTRAN mesh !!

And your preprocess model is empty (there are not geometric or mesh
entities)

You can rename CenterFedRef10G.post.msh to CenterFedRef10G.nas, then open
the GiD project CenterFedRef10G and import it with Files-Import-NASTRAN
mesh.

And then you change to postprocess the results file is read and you can see
it.

After import the Nastran file you can save the model, and then the
preprocess mesh is saved as CenterFedRef10G.msh with the GiD preprocess
binary format, and then you can load again the model without require
importing the Nastran file (in fact you can delete it after the import)

[GiDlist] Import->Insert GiD Geometry crashes on Windows 64b

Post by escolano »

In my experience GiD 11.0.8 is not so unstable as do you think.
Maybe do you have some settings of a kind of models that are specially
problematic.
I recommend you to reset all your settings (start once with "GiD safe mode"
and set the 'Reset preferences' checkbox)

For example I am able to import the file pantheon.igs with GiD 11.0.8
(Windows x32) , with automatic collapse with default tolerance with
importing,
And then to generate the mesh with size=100 I have some problem: GiD can't
mesh, but it doesn't crashed.
Then I've deleted the volume and created it again (maybe some surface is
bad oriented for the volume) and then I am able to mesh it with this size.
I attach my GiD model including the coarse volume mesh.

Thanks a lot, Enrique.

One more thing regarding postprocess! In my post process, I am getting following warning message.

"Sorry, but to get shinny textured contour fill OpenGL v. 1.2 or the GL_EXT_separate_specular_color extension is needed."

How can I get rid of this warning message? I have also attached the screenshot of my postprocess.

[GiDlist] Issues with Preprocess and Postprocess

Post by miguel »

Hi,

from the message i guess that you're using GiD in Safe visualization mode,
i.e. using software (cpu) graphics.

To disable the message, in post-process, select the option Options --
Contour -- Bright color -- No from the top menu bar.

Without this option, contour fill colours will be drawn without shininess,
kind of metal reflection.

If you want to use this option, i'll recomend you to change to Fast
visualization mode ( Preferences window -- Graphics -- system), which will
use your graphics card to render the models.

Have you tried already this mode? did you find any problems? If so, can you
explain them to us and send the contents of Help -- About -- More?

thanks, and best regards,

Miguel Pasenau

Subject: Re: [GiDlist] Viewing results in GiD Postprocess

Instead of create graphs from menus, it is more comfortable to create them
from the Graphs window (Window-View graphs
)

And to select the start and end points, if the center is an existing node,
then you can simply pick it (or enter its id number).

If the mouse cursor is a “+” then GiD is expecting a new coordinate x,y,z
but you can swap to pick an existing point with Ctrl-a (or click the
contextual menu and select “Join”)

If the center is not a node you must calculate its coordinates and enter the
x,y,z

And for the end point you can calculate also its x,y,z or you can enter the
coordinates relative to the previous point (the center) with this syntax
starting by @

@x,y

Or with polar coordinates:

@radius,angle

I think that the polar option is what you want. Angle is in degrees,
starting from x axe counter-clockwise

e.g. to go 0.2 units in a direction of 45 degrees enter

@0.2,45

Hi,

I have a 2D plot of current density of a circular plate. Now I want to plot
the variation of current along a radial line (rho) at some given angle
(phi).I know that I can go to

View results/Graphs/Line graph. Now I have two questions regarding this.

i) How can I specify the start and end point of the
radial line ? (starting point should be center of circular plate and end
point should be on the circumference of the plate)

ii) How can I specify the angle (with respect to
horizontal axis) at which the radial line is to be drawn?

[GiDlist] Import->Insert GiD Geometry crashes on Windows 64b

Post by HEMMI, Shigeru »

Dear Enrique Escolano,

Thanks for the support but the problem not solved.

Uninstalled GiD11.1.9d-win-x64-Install and installed GiD11.0.8-win-x64,
set the 'Reset preferences' checkbox, and
open pantheon.gid which is the attachment in your reply mail.

And then I did Erase--Mesh and Generate--Mesh, GiD crashed again.
See the attachment 2 figures.

My PC is Windows 8.1 Pro, 32Gbytes memory equipped.

Best regards,

HEMMI, Shigeru

2014-08-04 23:14 GMT+09:00 Enrique Escolano escolano at cimne.upc.edu:

Enrique

Dear Enrique Escolano,

1. As you wrote, GiD 11.1.9d does not crash after mesh generated for both
models and I apply "Insert GiD model"; thanks for the support.
2. I do not have money to purchase GiD 12; I have to go with GiD 11 for a
while.
3. The last official version 11.0.8 still has another crash problem, e.g.,

http://www.gidhome.com/component/manual/gidlist2014/panhteonigs_causes_a_cra
sh_of_gid_11_64bit_whengenerating_mesh
, which is not replyed yet. In my experiences the official version
11.0.8 crashes very often in many situations.

HEMMI, Shigeru

2014-08-04 19:46 GMT+09:00 Enrique Escolano escolano at cimne.upc.edu:
If fact the problem happen because in latest GiD developer versions
"Insert GiD geometry" has changed to "Insert GiD model" and now the mesh is
also inserted.

The crash happen if the model to insert or the current model doesn't has
any mesh. You can avoid the crash in GiD 11.1.9d with some trick, like
generate a mesh in both models before the insertion.

The problem is that we are not compiling any 11.x version more, because
this version has become the 12 version. The bug has been fixed in version
12.0.1 available for download now.

You can also use the last 11.0.8 official version.

Dear Enrique,

Thanks for the answer but the problem NOT solved.

I saved two models, for example, one is a sphere of radius 1.0 and the
center placed at the origin, and the second model of another sphere of
radius 1.0 at the center (2.0,0,0). When I open the first model and go to
"import--insert GiD Geometry" choosing the second model, GiD crashes on my
Windows PC.

Since the "import--insert GiD Geomtry" feature is significant for my
work, please fix it and provide fixed GiD 11 module.

It seems that it crash only when inserting a model in an empty model.
For this case doesn't has sense to use insert, use the normal open.
Insert model is just interesting to add a model to an existing model.

We will fix it for next GiD 12.0.1 version

Thanks for your information

[GiDlist] Import->Insert GiD Geometry crashes on Windows 64b

Post by escolano »

You can set exactly the same meshing preferences than I've used opening my GiD model and selecting the menu
Mesh-Mesh options from model

I've used GiD 11.0.8 Windows x32, maybe the crash only happen in the Windows x64 version (I don't have now any Winx64 machine available to test it)
You can also install and run a Windows x32 version of GiD on a Window x64 operating system.

Note: you can have several GiD versions installed simultaneously, it is not necessary to uninstall other versions, each one is stored in a different folder.

Dear Enrique Escolano,

As you wrote, 32bit GiD NOT crashed, though meshing failed (is a
smaller problem).
Please see figures1-6 attached (Sorry many attachments).
