Hello
Im new to GiD and Im basically performing analysis using OpenSees for my thesis and I would like to use GiD. Any idea about any useful material that I can use to be able to understand how to present OpenSees model and the obtained results using GiD? Thanks.

[GiDlist] Contact element

Post by David R. José »

Hello!
I'm using Quad9 elements and when I create a contact surface it is also meshed with Quad9 elements.I'd like to know if there is any way for creating a contact element that would only use the pre-existing nodes from the surfaces that are in contact, therefore generating a contact element with 6 nodes (instead of 9).
Thanks in advance!

An old flavia writer for OpenSees, but, still useful

Hello,
There is an unofficial interface done by Pedro Arduino from University
of Washington in Seattle. You can find more information:
http://faculty.washington.edu/parduino/research.html
and
http://opensees.berkeley.edu/wiki/index.php/GiD_ProblemTypes_for_2D_Slope_Analysis_Input_File_Generation

Hope it help, regards.

[GiDlist] Contact element

Post by escolano »

Nowadays the Quadratic is a global variable, then the whole mesh is
quadratic or lineal, but it is not possible to generate a mix of them

And the Quad6 element doesn’t exists in GiD (quadratic in a direction and
linear in other direction)

The only options you have is to set the contact surface to not be meshed,
and then you will not have any contact element, but already continue forcing
the 1-to-1 relationship between neighbor nodes, or set this surface to be
meshed with ‘line elements’ and instead of having ‘Quad9’ you will have
‘Line3’ in this contact surface (a line element linking neighbor nodes but
already quadratic)

You can ignore for your calculation the unwanted quadratic nodes of contact
elements.

Enrique
