[GiDlist] GiD 11.0.6 crashing with tetgen

[GiDlist] GiD 11.0.6 crashing with tetgen
Hi GiD team,
When I mesh the attached simple geometry using tetgen with a mesh size of 0.085 then all is OK changing this to 0.06 or smaller causes GiD to crash?
Are there any work arounds?
I often find the advancing front method to be problematic.
Regards
Mark

[GiDlist] GiD 11.0.6 crashing with tetgen
Hello Mark,
I have tried with the version 11.0.6 Win x32 with your model meshing
parameters and it worked well, with size 0.085 and also 0.06
Maybe the problem only happen in other platforms?
It exists also a more recent version 11.0.7 official version, and a 11.1.8d
developer version. It also fail with the latest versions?

This bug has been avoided for next GiD version.
Nowadays we have only parallelized the loop of mesh volumes.
Maybe could be some other problems unknown by us, let us know if do you detect any more.
In the future we will try to parallelize also the loop of mesh surfaces.

I have more information about this bug,
It is not related to x32 or x64 platform, it is related with parallelization.
It crash when meshing volumes in GiD with Tetgen with more than 1 thread, can avoid this crash setting

Hello Mark,
I have tried with the version 11.0.6 Win x32 with your model meshing parameters and it worked well, with size 0.085 and also 0.06
Maybe the problem only happen in other platforms?
It exists also a more recent version 11.0.7 official version, and a 11.1.8d developer version. It also fail with the latest versions?

Hi GiD team,
When I mesh the attached simple geometry using tetgen with a mesh size of 0.085 then all is OK changing this to 0.06 or smaller causes GiD to crash?
Are there any work arounds?
I often find the advancing front method to be problematic.

Mark

This bug has been avoided for next GiD version.
Nowadays we have only parallelized the loop of mesh volumes.
Maybe could be some other problems unknown by us, let us know if do you detect any more.
In the future we will try to parallelize also the loop of mesh surfaces.

[GiDlist] Number of nodes in a slice
Hi GiD support,
I usuallly work with semi-structured meshes. I'm trying to think in a way
to select the nodes in a slice, and export the number of those nodes. The
problem is that I don't have the equation of that plane, because the plane
that I want depends on the mesh that will be generated and depend also on
the shape of the object. Maybe I was not clear. I made a ppt that could
help you visualize my problem.
Thank you,
Julia

[GiDlist] Number of nodes in a slice
You cannot get easily the list of nodes of some ‘intermediate slice’ of a semi-structured mesh.
As you noted the slice is not a plane, and you cannot be able to get in a robust way its nodes by its geometrical location.
What you can do is something like this:
1- Mark the master surface of a top with a problemtype condition over surfaces-over nodes, to know these nodes of the ‘first slice’.
2- Mark the semi-structured volume with another condition over volumes-over body elements, to know the elements of the semi-structured mesh
3- Whit the previous information you could be able find the information you want: from the nodes of the first stile can use the element connectivities the find the nodes of the next slice, and so one. (must do it with some auxiliary exe or programming a Tcl procedure)
