[GiDlist] swept mesh with split edges

Post by Mark Smith »

Hi GiD team,
In Comsol it is possible to produce a swept mesh (see attached picture) where the edge face elements are split so that they can conform to a tetrahedral mesh in connecting domains, can such a thing be realised in GiD? if so how would it be done?
Regards
Mark

[GiDlist] swept mesh with split edges

Post by escolano »

It seems that do you want a mesh of volume prisms and also an extra mesh of
surface quadrilaterals that are splitted into surface triangles, without
create any extra node.

Really these mesh are 'non-conformal', because the face of the prisms and
the triangles doesn't match!!

In any case if do you want you can create it in GiD by generating the
volumic prisms and surfacic quadrilaterals, and then splitting the
quadrilateral into two triangles

Note: unset the option Meshing-Symmetrical structured triangles before
split, else the quadrilateral will be splitted into 4 triangles creating an
extra node in the center.

If do you only have created a volume mesh of prisms, can generate in a
second step its boundary elements (triangles and quadrilaterals) with
Mesh-Create boundary mesh.
