Import from SAP 2000

Post by sidubutt »

Hello toghether,

I am a civil engineer and also a new user of GID. I have noticed this problem with "SAP 2000 interface":
i have tried to import a structural SAP 2000 model (.s2k) with "SAP 2000 interface" but GID imports only the mesh, without geometry, loads, constraints, ecc...
I used this command: SAP 2000/import SAP 2000 mesh.

So my question are :
if I have a structural FEM model of a building created with SAP 2000 and then exported in .s2k format, it is possible to import the model, with all the structural features, in GID?

The normal way to use this problemtype is create or import the geometry in GiD, apply conditions and loads and then export all data in a .s2k file to be calculated by SAP2000, not the inverse.
As you pointed the current SAP2000 problemtype is only importing the mesh information of the .s2k file

tried using Konstru and CSi X Revit but we find that that the model is never precise enough for drawing production and you end up adjusting/fixing everything in Revit anyways.

Have you exported the .s2k file with this SAM2000 interface?
You can increase the default precision of real numbers printed as text adding to the start of the file
<GiD>\problemtypes\SAP2000.gid\SAP2000.bas
this command:
*realformat "%15.5f"

(the format has C syntax)

No you can not import .s2k file in SAP 2000 because their are two options of creating and opens your back FM Whatsappfiles and exporting your projecting including your geometry constructional and structural diagrams to the .s2k files.

I didn't understood well your comment.
Modern SAP2000 versions don't have the option to import any .s2k file?
or it is failing importing some specific case written by the GiD-SAP2000 interface?
