[GiDlist] run-time error

Post by Ruhollah Tavakoli »

Dear,

I used 1-month evaluation version of GID (v. 9.0-rc2) for postprocess of
heat transfer simulation, it works well for small data set, however when my
data be large about 10 milions hex element, runtime error during loading,
without any message, I do not know it is related to memory or limitation of
my version or other thing, any idea?

Firther, I think 1-month is quit insufficient for evaluation purpose,
consider each simulation takes O(week) to complete, and challenge of
postprocess is indeed related to large data set. Is it possible to extend
evaluation period (GID capability and feedback seems to be promising, but
need time to evaluate and figure out limitations)?

Thanks.

Cheers ... ruholla.

[GiDlist] run-time error

Dear Ruhollah,

concerning the evaluation version, you can download free 1-month passwords
three times for your computer, so you can spend two more months for testing
GiD capabilities. Other thing is that you can download now the 9.0 official
version, which was released llast friday (its passwords system is the same
as 9.0-rc2).

Regards,

ABEL

[GiDlist] run-time error

Post by escolano »

Probably the runtime error was caused, as you said, for a limitation of RAM

How much physical memory do you have? Are you using a 32 or a 64 bits GiD version?

A 32bits program can only handle about 2-3GB of RAM, if your 32 gid process exceed this amount the system can crash.
A 64 bit program can in theory handle a lot more, but in practice you probably doesn't have a lot a RAM nowadays.

Maybe you can try to reduce your amount of data (writting less time steps results, and using smaller meshes)
