Hello to all.

Can I make cracks with duplicate option? What does this option make? When
can I use this option?

Thanks to all.

[GiDlist] duplicate option

Hello Janneth,

You can use the 'duplicate' option to deal with cracks if you have the
corresponding geometrical entity where the crack will be. When you assign
'duplicate' mesh criteria to an entity, this entity will give two meshes,
one oriented to each sense.

You can see a simple example in the GiD Help (section Mesh-Mesh Criteria).

Regards,

ABEL

[GiDlist] duplicate option

Hello Abel

Of course, but i have another question. Is it possible that a crack will be
on perimeter? In this example the crack is inside the element.

I made a model by “duplicate option” in an element perimeter but always it
gives me tension on the crack head although it’s in the element perimeter.

Example

I haven’t been able to make it. I would be very grateful if you could help
me.

Thanks in advance.

Janneth.

[GiDlist] duplicate option

Hello Janneth,

There is no problem if you want to have the lines or surfaces with
"duplicate" mesh criteria in the perimeter. Thee only thing you have to take
into account is that GiD cannot create a surface if a line owns to it two
times. You may have to split the surface into 2, and assign to some of the
sharing lines the "duplicate" mesh criteria.

Find in the attachment a graphical example which may explain better this
explanation.

Regards,

ABEL

[GiDlist] duplicate option

Hello Jannet,

You are right, The end nodes of the 'duplicated lines' are shared, not duplicated. It's well for internal 'cracks', but as you said it's bad for lines cutting the perimeter, because the final node is joining both parts.
We will enhance our algorith for next versions to deal with this kind of situations.
