Hi all,
I need to generate a single layer of prism elements over a body meshed with tetras. So far I was successful only with
right prisms placed between identical parallel flat surfaces. Is there any way to generate more general prism elements?
Thank you in advance,
Zdzislaw

Dear Zdzislaw,
You can generate prism elements assigning if the volume meshed is set as
Semi-structured (Mesh-Semistructured). This only can be applied to
topologically prismatic volumes.
If you don't want to construct a geometrical volume (only like a extrusion
of the triangles of the boundary of a tetra mesh) you can access to the
option in the copy window (Utilities-Copy), which are more than a simple
extrusion.
Kind regards,
ABEL

Maybe it is also interesting to you to know that GiD now can generate
"boundary layer elements", that are layers of very thin elements close to a
boundary
(e.g. typical of CFD simulations).
To use this feature (last GiD beta versions only) go to menu:
Mesh-Boundary Layer-3D
Select the volume, and then select surfaces where to apply "boundary layer
information" (number of layers, size of first layer, and grow factor)
Note: This elements are now tetrahedra, not prisms as you want

[GiDlist] surfaces generate
Hi, I'm trying to create Surfaces with GID, I mean create a "problem type" in which I could modify parameters of equations or functions and this could generate the Surfaces or volumes (spheres, pyramids, random Surfaces, etc) according to this parameters, my question is Can I do this from the problem type of GID or it's necessary to program this on C and then connect this with GID?
Best regards

[GiDlist] surfaces generate
You can create surfaces at Tcl scripting level.
For example, the 'Geometry-Create-Parametric surface...' tool create a cubic approximation to a parametric equation.
See 'Parametric.tcl' file inside our scripts folder.
See also GiD help about our 'GiD_Geometry' special Tcl-GiD command, to create geometric entities (NURBS, etc) from Tcl
