[GiDlist] GiD 11 issues

Post by Luís Mendes »

Dear all,

We have just bought a local license for GiD 11 and after installing it
and activating the permanent version, the program presents the following
issues:
1) A "could not connect to server" warning appears in the textbox below.
It seems that GiD is pinging a central machine. Windows firewall was set
to allow all inbound and outbound communication for the Gid executable
2) When accessing the program "Preferences" the "General" does not work
and error windows are generated.

For further information check the image attached.

In the current state, the software seems to be unusable. Please advice
on how to correct these issues.

Best regards,

----------

[GiDlist] GiD 11 issues

Dear Luís,

I think that the error is not related to the licence. Your licence is local
and then GiD must not try to connect to any server to get a floating
password.
In any case have a look to the file scripts\TemporalVariables, and verify
that only contain your local password, and any server IP .

The error raised is because when GiD start it try to connect with our ftp
server to check if exists any GiD version more recent that your version, and
this connection is not allowed in your system
(a 'ping' is used previously and if it fail the ftp connection won't be
tried)

You can fix the problem for example with some of this ways:
- a) avoiding this 'check for upgrades' connection. To do it edit the file
scripts\ConfigureProgram.tcl and change
set ::GidPriv(ShowCheckNewVersion) 1
by
set ::GidPriv(ShowCheckNewVersion) 0

or you can also allow the connection changing your firewall configuration.

b) if you prefer you can download and install the latest GiD version where I
think that this problem has been fixed and it doesn't raise any error in
case of problems with this connection.

[GiDlist] MESH

I attach the GiD model after collapse and repair it, to fix some surface
orientations, and I have rebuild a few problematic surfaces from its
boundary.

I have been able to generate a coarse mesh of about a million of
tetrahedral.

The attached model only include the geometry (to be small).

You can generate the same mesh selecting 'Get meshing parameters from model'
when meshing.

The model is problematic to be meshed with volume element because the thin
depth of the tubes (using an element size similar to this depth you will
obtain millions of elements)

You must consider to use a simplified surfacic model and do a shell
analysis, or a more simplified line model, with the tube axes and do a beam
analysis.
