Hello all!

I didn't get an answer to my question and I don't know why. Has it

Hello!

We would like to know if the progression of the angle in the sweep
transformation can be changed by a GiD user in some way.

We use GiD Version 10.0.9 and have created a simplified rope
geometry.
The p-version of the finite element method is applied to compute our
rope. Each cell in our mesh is represented by a volume in GiD. We
first
modeled the profile of our rope and then used 'Utilities - Copy'
with
the transfomation sweep prescribing a positive angle to achieve the
helix-like geometry of a rope. We need to use several layers of
cells
for our rope and added them to the mesh using consecutive sweeps. We
attached a picture of the resulting geometry. It appears to us that
the
progression of the angle in the sweep transformation is prescribed
in a
way that ensures smooth transitions between neighboring volumes.
While
that may be comfortable for the user in most cases, it means for us
that
we cannot model our rope the way we intended to. We need to
prescribe a
linear progression of the angle throughout the rope. Can you tell us
which function controls the progression of the angle? Is there any
way
the user can change it, for example with Tcl?

Ada

Hello Ada,

The seep options are the ones showed in the copy window.

We are sorry, but it doesn't exists any option to control the
progression of
the sweep angle, I think that it is always linear,
and in any case the result of this operation is an approximation, not
a
matematically exact NURBS.

I think that the problem is that in the Linux install version it is
included
by mistake a wrong file: scripts\TemporalVariables, with a wrong
'server IP'
this file must store your GiD password, and intitially must not
exists until
you fill in with your password.

Try to delete this file, then when starting GiD will ask again for
your
password.
Remember that depending on your installation path, to be allowed to
save
your password in this file, GiD must be started with administrator
privileges (sudo gid)

We will check all our last GiD Linux installers to see if the related
'scripts\TemporalVariables' file is included by error, and then we
will
upload to the web a new fixed installer.

Hello Geraldo,

I don't have idea about the cause of this problem.
It happen the same using the developer version 11.1.4d ?

you can also try if GiD start using OpenGL by software, with the
command
gidx

Hi Everybody,

I still can not run the Gid 11.0.4 in the Ubuntu 12.04.

After installing the version Gid 11.0.4 and enter the password

the initial screen is without menu and buttons.

The screen is white and I can not work.

Hou can I solve this problem?

Hi Geraldo,

I had the same problem regarding the screen with no buttons nor

to
get them back I had to delete the file ~/.gidDefaults and
restart
Gid.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Marco

Oi Marco,

I deleted the file gidDefaults in the directory
~/GiDx64/11.0.4/scripts
and
restarted o GiD program, but the problem still continues. The
screen
continues white,
with no buttons and no menu.

Any ideia what is the problem? Maybe lacks some important
installation
in the Ubuntu.
Help me, please.

Hi Geraldo,

you should delete the file ~/.gidDefault and restart the
software,
not
the file in the ~/GiDx64/11.0.4/scripts folder actually.. hope it
works!

Cheers,
Marco

[GiDlist] Stresses at Gauss points for higher-order quadratu

Post by escolano »

You can write results on the amount and position of 'gauss points' that you
want, but then GiD will only plot them as spheres on these location instead
as colour filled elements.
Only some predefined gauss points are allowed to extrapolate the result from
gauss points to the element nodes (linear corners or quadratic mid-edge
nodes)
and also in the quadratic case for drawing pourposes the element is
subdivided in linear sub-elements.

I recommend you to use one of our predefined gauss points, extrapolating in
your code from your real integration amount and location to the GiD
location,
or better directly write as 'nodal results' instead of 'gaussian results',
having a continuous field. (some features like stream-lines are not allowed
for gaussian results because are discontinuous between neighbor elements)

Hello all,

I have a question regarding stress plotting in GiD. Is it possible to
write the stresses at Gauss points for higher-order quadratures? Say,
fifth-order on a triangle. I understand that the coordinates of the Gauss
points should be given explicitly, but also I understood from the GiD help
that some limitations may appear for plotting at these Gauss points. So,
is this possible? If no, is there any alternative to work around this
issue? Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Alejandro.
