Re: License for Mac OS X

Hello, the password is valid for all 12.x versions (both official and developers). You can get the free evaluation password (full cappabilities of GiD) from the website, and it lasts one month. Each computer can get up to three evaluation passwords, so there should be no problem for your students to...

Re: prism+tets

Hello,

maybe another option you have is to use the boundary layer mesh (see reference manual). This allows you to define some layers of elements with a given size normal to the surface, avoiding the need to edit the geometry. The thing is that in that case only tetrahedra are generated (not prisms).

Re: License for Mac OS X

Hello, you are right: there is only the developer version available for Mac OS. The official versions are more stable, and they are the result of just fixing bugs from the first official version (the 12.0 was published on July 2014). The developer versions include new developments, and may be not so...

Re: prism+tets

Hello,

the prism elements can only be obtained from a topologically prismatic volume. Can you send me the model in order to allow me to check whether the geometry fits with this requirements or not?

Re: Triangulate Surface Mesh to GiD volumetric Mesh

Hello,
I don't understand clearly your question. What do you mean with 'convert triangular surface meshes into gid volumetric meshes'? Are you trying to generate tetrahedra meshes of volumes, which contour surfaces are triangles? Or do you want to create prismatic elements from triangular ones?

Re: USB memory stick - Licence

The usb license allows you to run GiD in each computer the usb stick is plugged in. You can use GiD in any computer while the usb is pulgged in it.

Re: Floating Licence

Hello, the license includes the information of the number of users to be connected simultaneously. For instance, if you by 12 floating licenses, one license will be provided to you in order to run up to 12 GiD's simultaneously in the network. regards, ABEL

Re: Mesh interface

Hello, I'm not sure if I've understood well your case. You have to consider that unstructured volumes must be meshed with tetras, so their surfaces will have triangles. In case you want to mesh with hexas, you must set the volumes as structured (6-faced volumes), or semi-structured (topologically pr...

Re: mesh conversion

Unfortunately, GiD has not these features yet. We will include them in the todolist for futures versions.

Re: Biasing in Unstructured Meshes

Dear collegue, unfortunately, it seams that the only way to deal with this situation is the way Enrique has explained: to introduce new geometrical entities in the model, onto which you can assign different sizes. Actually there is another way to assign sizes independently on the geometrical entitie...
