I2M: Image to Mesh

I2M is an acronym to name the plug-in “Image to Mesh”. With this plug-in we can import into GiD data in digital image format and generate the mesh directly from the image data.

This plug-in is available from internet retrieve option since release GiD 13.1.4d.

The current version is able to import one 2D image a perform an extrusion along n slices. For next releases we are working on new features to be able to import multiple slices and images in 3D volume format.

Using this plug-in we are able to analyze long fiber composite, see below some images of this process:

LAMMPS is a GiD-problemtype that wraps the LAMMPS classical molecular dynamics (see lammps.sandia.gov)

GUI for some general data and postprocess animation of a result:

Download here LAMMPS-0.2-win-32.zip module and unzip it inside the /problemtypes GiD folder, Then you can load it in GiD from the menu Data->Problemtype->LAMMPS

This version includes LAMMPS compiled for Windows x32. The same version will work on Windows x64, must simply copy the contents of LAMMPS.gid\bin\win-x32 to LAMMPS.gid\bin\win-x64

For Linux platform must add the appropiated binaries to LAMMPS.gid\bin\linux-xx

Voro

Voro is a GiD-plugin that wraps the voro++ open source program to create Voronoi tessellations (see math.lbl.gov/voro++)

The plugin create a GiD geometry model of volumes. Periodic shapes can be created.

Download here¬†Voro 1.2¬†and unzip it inside the /plugins GiD folder, replacing previous copies, then start GiD and a new menu ‘Geometry->Create->Voronoi…’ will appear

The plugin includes voro compiled for Windows and Linux x32 (the x32 version is able to be run in x64 also)

Note: For Linux remember to set the execution flag to voro++ with the command chmod +x voro++

AMELET-HDF5 reader and writer

Amelet plugin:
This is a plug-in for reading and writing AMELET-HDF5 mesh format. It works with unstructured and structured meshes. Ready to use from version 10.2.0d of GiD or higher(require hdf5 package v 1.7). The plugin is installed by default in GiD, but this page could have more modern versions with fixed bugs and improved features.
Download here Amelet 1.22 and unzip it inside the /plugins GiD folder, replacing previous copies.

HIRF problemtype:
There is also a ‘HIRF’ GiD problemtype, to able GiD to handle some kind of Amelet HIRF information, like ‘selectorOnMesh’ entities.
Donwload the HIRF 1.7 module and unzip it inside the /problemtypes GiD folder

HIRF Framework:
GiD could be started stand-alone, but for the HIRF project it could be set as a Framework module. To install GiD as a HIRF ‘Framework’ module:
Read the instructions (Word format) to install it into the Framework GiD Installation Guide_v4.doc and GiD Reference Guide_v3.doc. Donwload the GiD_1.0.4.module file, and depenging on the target system donwload its implementation:
